Your Sharegrid Rental

Thanks for booking with Backstory Studios! Here’s everything you need to prepare for your rental.

1. Check your insurance option

Using ShareGrid’s “Damage Only” or “Damage and Theft” coverage?
You do not need to send us a Certificate of Insurance (COI). You’re all set to continue to the pickup and return instructions below.

Using your own third-party insurance?
Please have your insurance provider issue a COI with the following certificate holder information and email it to [email protected].

This address is for insurance paperwork only. Do not use it for pickup or returns.

Your insurance provider must issue the COI. You may enter the certificate holder information yourself only if your insurance producer has specifically authorized you or your company to do so, or if you’re issuing it through their online portal.

Have an annual Athos Insurance policy synced with ShareGrid? Your COI will be sent to us automatically when you book.

Already sent your COI to ShareGrid? We don’t have access to that copy. As the equipment owner, Backstory Studios needs a copy on file, so please send it directly to us unless it has been sent automatically through Athos.

2. Plan your pickup and return

Pickup: 1:00–6:00 PM on your pickup date
Return: 8:00 AM–12:00 PM on your return date

For an earlier pickup, later return, or after-hours appointment, please contact us in advance. We’ll do our best to accommodate. Early pickup and late return fees may apply; visit BackstoryStudios.com for fees, exceptions, and FAQs.

One-day rental exception: For a one-day rental returned the day after pickup, you may return that afternoon or evening at no additional charge. Please coordinate your return time with us.

3. On pickup day

Bring your ID. ID is required to collect the equipment.
Send us your ETA when you’re on your way. Message us through ShareGrid or call/text 818-960-3026.
Let us know when you arrive. We’ll meet you at the building’s front entrance. Plenty of street parking is available.
Complete the equipment checkout sheet at pickup or shortly afterward.

Someone else picking up?

Add them as an “authorized person” in ShareGrid before pickup. Send us their phone number so we can coordinate, and remind them to bring their own ID.

Prefer delivery?

Send us your delivery address and preferred delivery time. Delivery services are subject to availability.

Delivery fee: $7 per mile of distance between our Studio City location (91604) and your delivery address, with a $35 minimum charge.

Example: A delivery to Culver City that is 11 miles from our location costs 11 × $7 = $77 total. This is equivalent to a 22-mile round trip at $3.50 per mile.

Rush-hour surcharge: An additional $3 per mile applies to deliveries during these times:

• Fridays: 3:00–8:00 PM
• Monday–Thursday and Saturdays: 4:30–7:00 PM
